The Fatal Mistake

Updated: Nov 24, 2022

Last time I was at Laguna Seca, I was heartlessly rammed out of 3rd place...hopefully I will have some more luck this time around

Laguna Seca (USA)

E: 16 (1 Class A | 3 Class C | 12 D-Class*)

P: 1 Guy completed a lap

Q: 9th (BEST QUALIFYING Yet!) (10 Of those completed laps)

R: 6th (4th In Class) – NEW HIGHEST FINISH IN A FERRARI!

F: 11

S: 15

SOF: 935

As we all come around the final corner in formation at Laguna, we are waiting for the red lights...and it's green green green!!! The leader gets a hurrendous start and is swamped by the jump-starter in second, and the excellent starters around him...it's almost as if we were all on the ball and he wasn't....the second the lights went green (if not a little before) 2nd - 5th all blasted off...they however had to brake as they struggled to not overtake until the green....a few car-lengths back, and I didn't need to brake...as I had a gap, and had no-one to block me...so I stepped on the loud pedal and I went!

Slipping through a small gap between Aaron Dodd and Jake Potak (who WAS on pole, but slipped down into 3rd after his abysmal start) I slingshotted into third place, using far less gravel than last time!

Keen to make up positions from his bad start, Jake Potak went late on the brakes and got up the inside of me, sliding up along the inside of Dennis Viehof.. Not a single car touched during lap one...which was a record to say the least!

David then lost the back end under braking for the top of corkscrew, I then braked earlier than the guys behind me expected me too, and in a flash I had my rear view mirrors filled with mutlicoloured Ferraris...Andre Lopes launched down the inside of me in avoiding action, but then returned behind me down the corkscrew....

Aaron Dodd who was just watching to see what would happen, got a phenomenal exit out of the corner after the corckscrew, launching himself up the inside of Andre, totally catching him out by suprise....the following corner, I braked a little bit late for, and ran a little deep, Aaron took advantage of this and caught up to my door....and after a half decent exit out of the last corner, it was a drag race to turn one...

With Dennis firing off into the corckscrew gravel bed, and the leader (jumpstarter) mysteriously pitting, I had been promoted into 2nd place...don't fk this up Robin!!!

Nobody won the drag race as we were exactly the same gap as we had begun the straight...Aaron had to think of a didfferent strategy...this guy was hard to beat...fortunately for him, I had shoddy exit from the first corner... and he blasted past....but I didn't care...I was trying to get this baby home in one piece...as high as possible....over shooting the corkscrew on the same lap would not help my chances....and cosquently Andre Lopes shot past....

Cleverson Goncalves and Nick Jones were next up, battling fiercely behind me, and with me seriously sucking at Laguna Seca, and the sun setting....there was no other way this was going to turn out...

Andre Lopez did put it into the wall at the corner before Corkscrew, which promoted me into third...

The corner at the bottom of the Corksrew Mountain...killed me.

all weekend this corner was biting and killing me...spewing me off in directions I never knew existed...the banking with all that speed gained going down that hill....just kills you.

Lap 3. Penultimate corner....I brake much later than I should or needed to....Whilst others were braking at the "2" marker, I tried braking at the 1.5 marker (roughly half way between 2 and 1) . I shifted down twice. The back began sliding .... I was a passenger....Although I didn't spin out completely, I lost a potential 3rd place finish...which was a bummer....Who knows if I could keep them behind me for the rest of the race or not....

But 4 Ferrari's streamed past me...and I was enfuriated at myself...How could I let this go to waste?!?! Although one spun very late on in the race...the damage had been done, and the rest were far off into the horizon...I'll take 6th, but it was a very hard pill to swallow...Monza is next....Fast, straight with a couple of corners...should be decent.

My hopes of a podium went up in smoke....
